We previously heard about actress Halle Berry's child custody battle with her ex-boyfriend over their 7-year-old daughter. Now Berry is dealing with yet another family law issue - divorce. The actress married Olivier Martinez in 2013 in France. Four months before their July wedding, Berry announced that she was expecting a child with Martinez. The boy, named Maceo, was born in October of that year.
Berry was previously married to singer Eric Benet and baseball player David Justice. Her marriage to Martinez is reportedly her third. She was also involved in a relationship with Gabriel Aubry, with whom she had the child custody battle. According to reports, this was Martinez's first marriage. Both of them are 49 years old.
The two put out a statement to CNN saying they will "move forward with love and respect for one another" and that they ask for privacy during their divorce.
The two apparently have a prenuptial agreement in place. According to a petition that Berry filed under a pseudonym, neither of the parties will be awarded spousal support. The petition also apparently stated that all of Berry's assets and earnings are her separate property and that there is no community property.
In situations involving previous marriages and children from those marriages, it can be a very wise decision to have a prenuptial in place. In Berry's situation, it may make the split a lot smoother than it could have been had they not put together a prenup. It will be interesting to see what kind of child custody agreement the two will come to.
