Puss in Boots actor ends 18-year marriage

Compared to the typical marriage, celebrity marriages don’t seem to do so well, with tons of reports of divorces making the front page each year. Once in a while we hear about long-term marriages among celebrities spanning 15 or even 20 years, but a long-lasting marriage does not always mean a happy marriage.

Some of our Florida readers may have already heard that the 18-year marriage of celebrity couple Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith is coming to an end. Griffith recently filed for divorce from Banderas, citing irreconcilable differences.

The two have a 17-year-old daughter together and Griffith, 56, is asking for physical custody, with visitation for her soon-to-be-ex. She is also asking for alimony from 53-year-old Banderas, according to reports.

Although a few years back the couple denied rumors that they were having problems in their marriage, it seems there may have been some truth to them after all. Nevertheless, the couple released a statement saying that although they honor their time together, they are splitting up “thoughtfully and consensually.” This is Banderas’ second marriage and Griffith’s fourth.

Considering the two spent the better part of two decades together, there will likely be a lot of finances to work out during the divorce. Child custody, while still an issue since the daughter is 17, may not be as big of a concern as the actual split of marital assets. Nevertheless, they may end up discussing payment for potential future college expenses for their daughter as part of the divorce settlement.
