Divorce comes with a variety of pros and cons

For most people, divorce is not a decision to be made lightly. While those around us may feel we made the decision in haste, they often times do not know the months, or in many cases years, it took to reach that decision. Like all things, divorce brings with it good and bad. If it was all bad, we'd likely see divorce rates dwindle, but year by year, residents in Florida and throughout the country continue to make the hard decision in hopes of a brighter future.

Recently, actress Mayim Bialik took on the topic of divorce on her parenting blog. The actress, who our readers may know from "The Big Bang Theory," divorced her husband of nine years in late 2012. The former couple has two boys, both under 10.

While divorce may have been the right decision for her, she points out that it’s not as easy as it seems, especially when it comes to parenting. For example, she says it can get awkward when she has to read family-oriented bedtime stories to her children. She says it can also be difficult to console both children if they are crying at the same time. She discussed these issues after a married mother made a blog post about feeling jealous of the freedom her divorced friend has.

It’s pretty inevitable that divorce will bring some hard times -- much more for some than others -- but in many cases, the benefits of divorcing outweigh the negatives of staying together. For many people, weighing these pros and cons of divorce often helps them make their ultimate decision.
